OCZ 2GB PC2-5400 DDR2 SO-DIMM - $99

The Fastest Mobile Memory Available
If you're building whitebooks based on Microsoft Windows Vista, you’ll want to consider more than just 1GB of system memory. The OS runs well enough on lesser-equipped machines, but the sweet spot seems to be in the 2GB range. Most barebones notebooks are limited to two SO-DIMM slots, so it’s important to plan those upgrades carefully. OCZ Technology’s newest high-density modules give Vista plenty of memory muscle while leaving room for expansion.

The largest offering in OCZ’s SO-DIMM family sports a whopping 2GB of DDR2 RAM on a tiny module. Operating at 667 MHz—the fastest memory speed supported on Intel’s Santa Rosa Centrino refresh—the 200-pin, PC2-5400 stick delivers plenty of bandwidth.

Now that OCZ’s notebook memory lineup includes 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB kits, you’ll need to decide whether to populate one memory slot in your whitebooks or both. Dropping a single 2GB module into a barebones kit is great for maximizing capacity with room to spare, while a pair of 1GB modules takes full advantage of Intel’s dual-channel architecture. Whichever route you take, OCZ’s PC2-5400 modules will match Intel’s commitment to performance, capacity, and quality.
