Many SMB's swear by small form factor boxes, if only because they free up so much desktop space. Sure, you lose out on room to plug in add-in cards, but the latest SFF platforms do such a great job of integrating important features that expansion is not as much of an issue. Shuttle's SP35P2 Pro takes functionality a step further by not only matching the scalability of most desktops, but also leveraging Intel's new P35 chipset to enable a handful of unique extras.
The SP35P2 Pro supports Intel's entire line of Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processors, including the new 45nm models. An official 1333 MHz front side-bus setting guarantees the best possible performance. The inclusion of Intel's ICH9-R controller hub gives the SP35P2 plenty of 3 Gb/s SATA connectivity. But because the platform's compact size doesn't offer as much internal storage space, two eSATA ports go a long way toward extending the box' maximum capacity.
The box's other standard features include two DDR2 slots that take up to 8GB of memory, Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, a fingerprint sensor, and optical in/output. Somehow Shuttle also manages to cram in a 400W 80 PLUS-certified power supply, opening the door to a high-end discrete graphics card.
